How Happy Are You?
I am always curious as to the links between the way we live our daily lives and the health and happiness we enjoy. There are so many variables. How can we be happier? How happy are you?
The choices we make every day, some of which seem completely unrelated, that can dramatically impact our health and happiness.
With that said, here are 5 ways to improve your happiness quotient.
1. Cultivate deep and meaningful connections (like marriage, close friendships, and staying in touch with family)

Most of our experiences are about connecting with other people. Connection is what provides value and meaning to our lives.
So it is understandable that people with strong social ties are found to be healthier and have a lower risk of death.
2. Get up and move around.
Sitting all day has more harmful effects than you might think. It cultivates depression. Get out of your office at lunch. Go for a walk to a nearby park if you can. If there isn’t one close just get moving. Take a few flights of stairs. The point is, sitting all day whether at a desk or in front of the television take a toll on your state of mind. Exploring the world around you — whether that means traveling to faraway lands or hiking through the woods in your area — provides a wide range of mental and physical benefits.
3. Take a moment
From the time you wake up until the time you go to bed, do you ever take 15 minutes to just sit and be present? I really try to. Even if it is getting up 30 minutes earlier than everyone else just to sit with my coffee and breathe. Being mindful and taking time for yourself is so important. We run around with kids, work, family and rarely take any time just for us. Go sit in the tub after the kids go to bed with some bubbles and a book. Just be…………………..
4. Change your attitude or change the job that you hate.
So yes, added to that, it’s dangerous to work too much. In Japan, the overtime and workplace stress has become so mainstream that they actually have a label for the people who die because of it: karoshi, which literally means “death by overwork.”
So any way in which your job makes you feel stressed is bad for your happiness. Sometimes it takes leaving that job, or learning a new way to deal with the stresses of it. No one plan will work for everyone. Get ready for my Design Your Happiness Challenge being released soon. I will help you change your mindset on this one. Or check out Change Your Perspective
5. Get Creative
Expressing yourself creatively strengthens your happiness. It is high on the designing your happiness quotient, because we are just happier doing something we love. Start by making a vision board. Where do you see yourself? Where do you want to go?
I hope you take these 5 action steps and start feeling happier in your every day lives.
