The key difference between coaches and psychologists is that psychologists focus on looking back to heal, while coaches focus on the future. We are working on getting your mind to shift. Lose the habits that created your circumstances. It’s not just about goal setting, it about creating positivity.
Coaching is one of those things that a lot of people aren’t sure about. Although most of the world’s most successful people have coaches to improve their success, at sometimes amazing levels. The average person wonders how a life coach can help them.

Whether it is to help on your weight loss journey, or help you transition in your life, a life coach could be just the thing you need to help you achieve your goals.
1. Your habits are not supporting your goals.
This is my number one thing I see with clients on a daily basis. You know where you want to be, yet you continue to make self-destructive decisions that keep you tied to your bad habits. This can be from over eating, under-eating, fad diets, and binging. A good coach will help you clear blocks and reach levels of commitment and growth you would never be able to see yourself.
2. To train your brain to change it’s mindset
Mind over matter really does count! When you’ve been struggling along on your own for a while, it’s easy to become unmotivated and lose confidence in your own abilities. By putting you back on the right path, a coach can help you to find the confidence and motivation you need to make it happen. I wrote about the mind set and how important it is in my last post here. Coaches help to train your brain to see things differently. Whether it be your relationship with food and dieting, or being stuck in a job your hate. Whatever issues you’re facing in life, a coach will help put you back in control. Your struggles will become easier to handle, and you’ll feel happier, more positive and supported, and confident about getting out there and crushing your goals.
3. To make you accountable for your actions
This is a big one. Most people have a really hard time being accountable to themselves. We are just not built for it. It is the biggest reason even fit people stick with their personal trainers. We just don’t push ourselves enough on our own. We need a coach. If you already kinda know what you need to do to achieve your goals, but you just keep making excuses, a coach will put an end to your procrastination. A coach is there to keep you on track and motivated. They will provide a supportive push in the right direction and ask the tough questions as to why……..when you let yourself down.
4. To help you find direction
If you feel lost and directionless, you’re not alone. Many people amble through life without much of a plan at all. One step in front of the other with no true direction as to where. A coach can help you identify your goals and break them down into actionable steps. Through exercises and work sheets you will begin to see where your most important goals are. They won’t be some huge pie in the sky that seems so unattainable you don’t even bother to try and give up before getting started. They will be SMART
5. To keep you focused on what’s important
Once you’ve worked out what you want and need from your life, your coach is there to help you get clear about your specific SMART goals and keep you focused on what’s really important. It’s easy to feel scared by goals that feel too big and out of reach, but as I outlined in #4 A coach will help you break everything down and get focused on each individual action step you need to take to achieve your goal. The benefit of your coach’s knowledge and the step-by-step action plan they’ll help you to build will get you from where you are to where you want to be faster than you could on your own.
I added the life coaching component to my personal training business because I wanted to help at a deeper level. It was one thing to push my clients during a workout, and send them home with a meal plan. If once at home they fell back into old habits and the meal plan was stuck in a drawer. It wasn’t working.
I needed to help them identify their food triggers, and sabotaging habits that were keeping them from achieving the results they wanted. I wanted to help them to break down the “I need to lose 50 pounds” large goal into smaller bite size goals, that are easier to attain.
It is working!!!
We address their home life, their support system, their negative beliefs, where diets have gone wrong in the past, and general life fears. We celebrate successes and I hold them accountable when they slip up. I see myself as part of their team. A special cheerleader just for them. Cheering them on and helping them to achieve. Not only do I provide the meal plans an workouts so they can lose the weight, but I help them build a framework to change their lifestyle so they will see long lasting and sustainable results.
The framework I teach helps in all areas of my clients lives. One of my clients lost 63 pounds on my program! She gained confidence, goal setting skills and was finally able to let go of the road blocks she had in her mind that were holding her back. She used what I taught her and quit her job of 27 years to start her own business!!!
