Developing the right thoughts is not about being constantly happy or cheerful, and it’s not about ignoring anything negative or unpleasant in your life. It’s about incorporating both the positive and negative into your perspective and choosing to still be generally optimistic.

A positive mindset about acknowledging that you will not always be happy and learning to accept bad moods and difficult emotions when they come, and not fall victim to the self pity bandwagon.

Above all, it’s about increasing your control over your own attitude in the face of whatever comes your way. You cannot always control the thoughts that pop into your head, but you can choose how you handle them.

A positive mindset will lead to more empowering beliefs about your ability to solve a challenge and address a problem.

Pretty soon you will start to see yourself as a “bigger person”. Your problems will seem “smaller”. Problems can be solvable depending on whether you are bigger than the problem or smaller than the problem. Mindset has a lot to do with that. This is why the same problem for two different people will be handled differently. One person sees themselves as bigger than the problem the other as smaller. I can tell you that the one who sees himself as smaller is going to have a much harder time.


The moment you clear your mind from the negativity, the self-doubt and the limiting beliefs, your brain will start looking for and focusing on the positive, on the solutions, on the “how to” get yourself to the next stage of your goals and life. Exciting!!! You bet!!!

#1 YOU NEED TO BE AWARE OF YOUR THOUGHTS 

The moment you become aware of your thoughts, you are bringing them to the forefront of your mind and you will start to notice whether you have more positive or negative thoughts. Start by observing your dominant thoughts and notice trends and patterns.

Listen to your brain to understand your current mindset – how does your mind react when something happens? What is its automatic ‘go-to’ response?

These will be your first clues into your current thought processes and mindset so that you can then start to change it.

#2 YOU NEED TO CHALLENGE YOUR THOUGHTS 

Now that you are more aware and conscious of your thoughts, challenge them. Ask yourself and be honest with yourself about whether these thoughts and this mindset is aiming you towards being happier, feeling more fulfilled and helping you work towards your goals, or whether they are destructive, and discouraging.

Any thought or reaction that comes to your mind, question it. Question the intention behind why it’s coming up to make sure that it’s not coming from a negative place.

# 3 YOU NEED TO FILL YOUR MIND WITH ALL THINGS POSITIVE

The more you fill your brain with positive thoughts, the less attention and energy you are giving to the negative mindset. Sometimes, ignoring the negative thoughts is the key to overcoming it. The less power and attention you give to it, the less power it will have over you. Whatever your field of focus is, is what you will find.

 # 4 YOU NEED TO STOP COMPARING YOURSELF 

Your only competition is yourself. Not your sister, not your mother, not your friend, and certainly not those you follow on Instagram or Facebook…the only person you should be comparing yourself to is YOU.

Why? Because you are you!!!! There is no one like you anywhere. Your  life experiences, your path in life, your personality, your character, your loves…they’re all unique to you. No one has done the exact same thing as you. And They certainly don’t have the same personality and character traits. So why are you comparing yourself to someone else?

Oftentimes, we get caught up in the comparison game, which is sometimes the root of our negative mindset.

Comparing yourself to someone else will only make you feel worse. And if we’re honest, it’s not even a fair or reasonable comparison, because in reality, you don’t know what anyone else has gone through to get to where they are and you can’t know their struggles. If you are comparing yourself to what you see on Facebook you are in for a real downer. Why compare yourself to everyone else’s highlight reel?

Change your mindset and stop comparing yourself to anyone else. Focus on you and who you want to become.

# 5 YOU NEED TO CREATE A GREAT MORNING ROUTINE 

A happy life begins with how you start your day. Create a morning routine that gets your energized, inspired and empowered. I am a big advocate for morning routines. I have one myself. It starts my day off great. Every Single Day.

Get Up

Morning Coffee and answer emails from my blog subscribers-Makes me feel great to help them with an issues I can.

10 Minutes of Stretching-Does my 50 year old joints good.

Breakfast-Usually a healthy protein shake

Workout-Whether it be at home or at the gym. Usually listening to motivational pod casts etc.

Shower and Get Ready-My mirror is plastered with great quotes and feel good declarations that I do say every day

 # 6 WRITE IT DOWN

I have have told you in other blog entries how important is to have a journal and to write down your goals and dreams and happy moments. The negative thoughts and feelings you are writing down now are for a different book. Please don’t use your happiness journal.

Because you see…………. the moment you remove something from your mind, you are physically removing a negative thought from your mind because you are putting on paper, outside of your brain.

This will not only help you clear your mind but it can also help you evaluate that mindset. You will also be able to challenge your it more effectively to figure out what situations or individual trigger certain negative thoughts and so that you can try to find a solution on how to avoid it.

It is not going to be easy.

Changing your mindset will require consistent effort and practice because it is a new habit that you are trying to grow. Consistency is the key.  This is going to be great because you will begin to notice a shift in how you feel about yourself and your life because when you have a positive and empowering mindset, you get less caught up with the useless drama and energy wasters in life. You will have more energy and mind space to focus on the things that matter…what your really want out of your life!!!!
